Courses - FAQs E-mail

Q: Are State Training Services' courses the same as other first aid providers like St John and Red Cross?
Yes, our courses are nationally recognised and have exactly the same learning outcomes as other providers. For example our Apply First Aid Course (aka Senior First Aid) content is the same as any other accredited first aid provider.  You receive the same Unit of Competency qualification on successful completion of the course.

Q: How long does the course go for?
Courses vary in length; for example our Apply First Aid (senior first aid course) goes for 7 hours (plus 1/2 hour meal break). The CPR course is usually 3 hours duration, depending on specific client needs.

Q: Why are you going to a 7 hour course with no workbook?
State Training Services is following industry trends and guidelines to implement a much more practical and and competency-based training session.  This eliminates the need to complete a written assessment.

Q: What do I need to bring to my course?
Bring along a note pad and pen if you wish, otherwise all other training materials, manuals (if applicable) etc are provided.

Q: What should I wear for my training?
We recommend loose comfortable clothing as some practical work on the floor is required , eg CPR etc.

Q: English is my second language, can I bring an interpreter?
Yes. You can bring along a friend, family member or a qualified interpreter to attend the training with you free of charge. However if the interpreter would like to gain the same qualification they can pay a reduced fee.

Q: What age do I need to be to do a first aid course?
State Training Services have courses designed to suit any age; we have a fun course for little children and a course designed for older people. Age is no limit to learning to save a life, however some courses have recommended minimum ages, for example senior first aid is 14 years. Participants who attend a course under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign a consent form.

Q: Do I get a certificate?
Yes, all participants receive a colour A4 certificate on successful completion, for Nationally Accredited courses. An electronic version of your certificate can be PDF'd to you by email if you wish, instead of a paper version. WE encourage this as part of our commitment to ASO26000, to reduce our carbon footprint.

Q: Can I get a wallet-sized card as well?
Yes, we can produce a plastic ID/proof of first aid accreditation card, available for $10.00 each (GST incl).  Please talk to your educator on the day of your course.

Q: Is there a free parking space?
Yes, free parking is available at our SA Training Centre; if the car park is full, ample no limit parking is available in streets just across the road, off Richmond Rd.

Q: Does State Training Services have first aid products for sale?
Yes, we have a range of first aid kits, books and safety equipment available for sale.

Q: Can I pay for the course on the day?
Payment is required prior to attending a first aid course, in order to secure your place; however for corporate groups we can arrange invoicing.

Q: Does State Training Services have a variety of payment methods?
Yes, you can pay with cash, cheque, money order, Direct Debit, Mastercard or Visa. We do not have EFTPOS facilities.

Q: Can I transfer into another course?
Yes, if you notify us prior to the course date you are welcome to defer and transfer into another course on another date.

Q: How quickly will I get my certificate?
If you have completed all requirements we can normally give you the certificate at the end of your course, if you attend a course at the SA Training Centre, in Richmond. Otherwise it is normally 5 to 10 working days from completion of all requirements.
