This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to implement a sports injury prevention program, and give competent first aid to the ill and injured in a sporting environment, until medical aid arrives. The course has been developed in accordance with the Sports Industry Training Package, and Health Training Package.
Course content
- injury prevention
- warm-up and cool down
- hydration
- basic taping/strapping demonstration
- assessing the situation
- signs of life
- perform CPR
- use of automated external defibrillator
- care of the unconscious athlete
- awareness of breathing emergencies, including choking and asthma
- awareness of severe allergic reaction
- awareness of bleeding and shock
- infection control
- reporting procedures

Assessment method
Demonstration of practical skills, role play and group scenario activities
Course award
On successful completion of this course, the participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised Unit of Competency from the Health Training Package, HLTCPR201A - Perform CPR
